Built for English speakers who want to understand, not memorise

Romanian feels locked to English speakers: cases, genders, irregular verbs, and a grammar book that assumes you already know the vocabulary. Romanian Unlocked hands over one key at a time.

Everything in the app

One course, from A1 to B1

No add-ons and no upsells inside the app — a subscription opens all of it.

Short grammar lessons

92 lessons from A1 to B1, ordered by usefulness rather than by textbook chapter.

One grammar point per lesson, in plain English. Each one follows the same shape — the idea, the forms, the why, and the mistakes to watch out for — so you always know where you are.

Six exercise types

Every lesson makes you produce the language instead of just recognising it.

Multiple choice, fill the gap, conjugation, sentence building, matching pairs and error correction. The grader understands Romanian diacritics, so it can tell you you were one accent away rather than simply wrong.

1,250 flashcards

With plurals, gender, present forms and example sentences — the word arrives with its identity.

Fifty themed batches of twenty-five words. A card carries the forms that make the word usable: the plural, the feminine, the present tense, the register, the case it governs. Spaced repetition decides what you see next.

AI conversation partner

Practise realistic scenarios by voice or text, and get your grammar corrected.

Order in a restaurant, book a room, argue about the weather. Write or speak, and the corrections come back with the explanation — not just the fix.

AI grammar teacher

Ask about any lesson and get extra explanations and examples, scoped to what you are reading.

Open it from inside a lesson and it already knows which grammar point you are on, so you can ask the follow-up question the lesson did not answer.

Milestone exams

Four exams that draw from the whole pool, so a retake measures your Romanian, not your memory of the paper.

Each exam is a view over everything you have covered in its range and draws a fresh hundred items per sitting. Adding a lesson inside the range joins the exam automatically.

Progress that adds up

Spaced repetition, daily streaks and XP that reflect what you actually learned.

A five-level Leitner system moves each item up when you get it right and down when you do not — never resetting to zero. Progress is stored against your account, so it follows you between devices.

Monthly exercises & printables

Subscribers also get monthly practice sets and printable PDFs to work through away from the screen.

A fresh set every month, plus printable material for the days you would rather use paper. Included with your subscription, in your members area on the web.

Lesson anatomy

The same four sections, every lesson

Because the shape never changes, you spend your attention on Romanian instead of on finding your place.

  • The idea

One grammar point per lesson, explained in a sentence before any tables.

  • Why

The reason behind the rule, so it stops being something you memorise.

  • Watch out

The trap English speakers fall into, called out before you fall into it.

  • Style & register

When a form is formal, colloquial, or just sounds wrong in the wrong room.

Practice

Six exercise types, one shared grader

The grader understands Romanian diacritics and near-misses, so it can tell you that you were one accent away instead of simply marking you wrong.

For English speakers

Where English helps — and where it misleads you

Most Romanian courses are written for people who already speak a Romance language. You do not, and that changes what needs explaining.

Romanian Unlocked points out the places where your instincts will be right, and the places where they will quietly lead you astray — the false friends, the word order that sounds wrong in English but is normal here, the form that is technically correct and nobody uses.

Every Romanian example carries its English translation. Every explanation is in plain English. Nothing is left in a language you have not learned yet.
